The City of Cleveland is allowing Bird Scooters to remain on city streets, for now at least.

A week after the city鈥檚 law director requested that all of the two-wheel, dockless, electric-powered scooters be removed by the next day, the city says it hasn't impounded any scooters.

Councilman Kerry McCormack said Thursday that city council and the mayor鈥檚 office are working with the California-based tech company and he wants the scooters to stay.

鈥淎nd we also set some guidelines around how they operate to ensure safety for the public,鈥 said McCormack. 鈥淪o where it stands in Cleveland 鈥 we are working together right now to navigate a path where the scooters can stay and our residents can use them.鈥

The scooters are still available through the company鈥檚 mobile app.

Bird was founded a year ago and, according to its website, operates in 29 US cities, not including Cleveland.
