Greater Cleveland Film Commission Hires New President

The Greater Cleveland Film Commission announced the hiring of a new president Tuesday. Bill Garvey will lead the organization, which promotes TV and film production in the region, effective Sept. 27.

Garvey has worked as a location manager, securing sites for films and shows in Ohio, with credits including 鈥淭he Avengers,鈥 鈥淐aptain America鈥 and 鈥淔ast & Furious: The Fate of the Furious,鈥 according to a press release.

Its former president, Evan Miller, parted ways with the film commission last year. Hired in August of 2019, Miller replaced longtime president Ivan Schwarz.

Schwarz helped secure a state tax credit to promote new productions, and he was a key figure in establishing Ohio鈥檚 first film school at Cleveland State University.

While the film commission said Garvey is unavailable for interviews until next month, through an emailed statement he indicated one goal is to grow the tax credit and another is attracting and retaining talent for the workforce.
